2022

As I apply the Hal Elrod framework for making 2022 my best year ever, I thought it might be worthwhile to have a page here on my site to keep my plans, record my progress, and eventually record the results I create throughout the year. This is NOT a place to brag, but rather a place to humbly track the results of a life experiment I am conducting during 2022.

Taking from the framework I laid out on the Best Year page…

Step 1. Determine the Results You Want to Create – During 2022, I sincerely want to create these results in these life areas.

A. Health, Fitness, and Wellness – I want to create the following results:
1. Get my weight down to a healthy 200 pounds
2. Get my blood pressure to normal without prescription medications
3. Get my cholesterol to normal without prescription medications

B. Finances – I want to create the following results:
1. Get my job-related income to more than $100,000 per year
2. Get my savings balance to more than $1,000
3. Get my investment balance to more than $50,000

C. Career and Business – I want to create the following results:
1. Earn a promotion with CACI or take a new step-up position with another company
2. Launch a new side hustle that is creating revenue
3. Complete and log my CompTIA continuing education credits

D. Relationships – This year, I want to put special focus on my relationships with my family members, without abandoning relationships with others.
1. Enjoy a closer, more intimate, and more fulfilling relationship with Annette
2. Enjoy closer relationships with the kids and their spouses
3. Enjoy regular, quality time with Annette’s parents
4. Enjoy consistently communicating with my parents
5. Enjoy warm, friendly relationships with church acquaintances
6. Enjoy warm, friendly relationships with work colleagues
7. Enjoy meeting at least one new person each week

E. Contribution to the World – I want to create these results:
1. Consistently donate to a child-related charitable organization
2. Consistently add more positivity to the world by smiling at others
3. Consistently add more positivity to the world through positive comments

F. Personal Growth and Development – I want to create these results:
1. Consistently implement the Miracle Morning
2. Read 12 high quality non-fiction books and implement at least 1 new idea from each
3. Complete 3 “conquer” modules from Brian Johnson’s optimize.me site
4. Read 300 Philosopher’s Notes from Brian Johnson’s optimize.me site
5. Complete the Jim Rohn year-long success program
6. Read the book Human Action by Mises

G. Relaxation, Recreation, and Fun – I want to create these results:
1. Find reasons to laugh every day
2. Play guitar for 15 minutes every day
3. Enjoy watching a TV show or movie with Annette every week
4. Enjoy time away with Annette on a mini-trip away from regular life each month
5. Throughout the year, enjoy at least 4 concerts, plays, musicals, or other performances
3/13 – UCCS play “A Flea in Her Ear”

H. Spirituality – For 2022, I am opening my mind to exploring ancient wisdom and other spiritual practices in addition to the realm of my “normal” Christianity, so I want to create these results:
1. Re-read the book Illusions and podcast journal on the main ideas
2. Complete the optimize.me section on Buddhism and implement at least one practice
3. Complete the optimize.me section on Stoicism and implement at least one practice
4. Read one chapter from Proverbs each day
5. Read one chapter from Psalms each day
6. Read one section from the Tao Te Ching each day

Step 2. Establish a Mission for the Year – In this first year of applying this framework, the single most important result that I need to prioritize is to practice the Miracle Morning as a key part of becoming who I need to become to create the results I want to create in 2022.

Step 3. Have a Morning Ritual – I purchased the Kindle version of Hal’s book about the Miracle Morning and started reading it on December 23. On top of a couple other steps in my morning ritual, I also intend to practice the Miracle Morning, because it has been proven by many, many people to help them create incredible results in 1 hour or less each morning. Here are the Life SAVERS:
Silence – Starting with meditation for 2 minutes
Affirmations – Will read these out loud
Visualization – Starting with doing this for 2 minutes
Exercise – Will do pushups, situps, walk the floor for 5 minutes
Reading – Will do Psalms, Proverbs, Tao Te Ching sections during this time
Scribing – Will start with 5-minute journal app

Hal says this can be customized and put in any order that works for you, so I’m going to arrange these in an order I think will fit my life more easily. Doing this will remove an obstacle or two to making this a regular practice. And, of course, I reserve the right to modify the plan as much as needed until I find the optimum combination for me.
Silence – meditate for 2 minutes, focusing on breath
Visualization – visualize my desired outcomes and processes for 2 minutes
Reading – Psalms, Proverbs, Tao Te Ching section
Affirmations – will read these out loud to begin transition to louder time
Exercise – pushups, situps, walking the house floor (winter) for 5 minutes
Scribing – 5-minute journaling app entries

So, at this point (12/27/21), my morning ritual looks like this:
1. Get out of bed when my wife does
2. Go to the bathroom to clear the accumulated waste
3. Do a morning weigh-in and record the weight
4. Drink an 8-ounce glass of filtered water
5. Get back in bed for morning snuggles
6. When my wife gets up for her shower, make the bed
7. Go to my office and do my Miracle Morning
8. Shower and dress for the day
9. Light and nutritious breakfast and drink another glass of water
10. Send my wife an encouraging note
11. Listen to a 7 Good Minutes podcast episode
12. Reaffirm my intentions for the day

And making an edit on 3/4/22, my morning ritual looks like this:
1. Get out of bed when my wife does
2. Go to the bathroom
3. Do a morning weigh-in and record the weight
4. Drink an 8-ounce glass of filtered water
5. Get back in bed for morning snuggles
6. When my wife gets up for her shower, make the bed
7. Go to my office and do my Miracle Morning
8. Shower and dress for the day
9. Light and nutritious breakfast and drink another glass of water
10. Send my wife an encouraging note
11. Listen to a Bible in a Year podcast episode
12. Reaffirm my intentions for the day

Step 4. Choose Predetermined Processes – Hal said that every result you want can be achieved by implementing a repeatable process. As I prepare for the upcoming year, these are the predetermined processes I believe will allow me to create the results I want to create. There may or may not be overlap between the morning ritual and some of these processes.

  1. Eat for energy and wellness and then enjoyment. Drink more water.
  2. Move on purpose at least 5 minutes every hour during “work day” hours.
  3. Sleep for 6 hours per night. Nap as needed.
  4. Read from a high-quality non-fiction book for 15 minutes and note good ideas
  5. Complete one piece of content from an optimize.me “conquer” module
  6. Read or listen to one PhilosopherNote from the optimize.me site
  7. Complete one piece of content from the Jim Rohn collection
  8. Read 3 pages from the book Human Action by Mises
  9. Complete one piece of content from the optimize.me section on Buddhism
  10. Complete one piece of content from the optimize.me section on Stoicism
  11. Complete CompTIA continuing education unit and log the completion
  12. Play guitar for 15 minutes every day other than prep for a weekend
  13. Listen to a standup comedian on Spotify until I laugh out loud
  14. Text one of the kids or their significant others a quick message
  15. Practice giving warm, genuine smiles to everyone who crosses my path
  16. Give a sincere compliment to at least one person
  17. While at work, constantly seek to add value to my co-workers’ lives
  18. Whenever I am near a stranger, reach out and introduce myself
  19. Call my parents on Sundays
  20. When at church, be genuinely interested in the people there
  21. Be open to opportunities to attend concerts, plays, musicals, etc.
  22. Be open to opportunities to setup monthly getaway trips with Annette
  23. Be as productive as possible at work in order to deserve a raise
  24. Take advantage of opportunities to enjoy a new show or movie with Annette
  25. Take advantage of opportunities to enjoy time with her parents every so often

Process for desired Savings Balance result:
1. Check any and all savings balances as early as possible in the year
2. Make a plan, with Annette, to get balances to more than $1,000 total
3. Make note of the plan here on this best year page
4. Consistently execute the plan and log the execution
5. Make any needed adjustments after a monthly review
6. Log the results at the end of the year

Process for desired Investment Balance result:
1. Check any and all investment balances as early as possible in the year
2. Make a plan, with Annette, to get balances to more than $50,000 total
3. Make note of the plan here on this best year page
4. Consistently execute the plan and log the execution
5. Make any needed adjustments after a monthly review
6. Log the results at the end of the year

Process for desired Career Promotion result:
1. Daily, check Workday for “step up” CACI positions
2. If I find one, talk to Jim about going for it
3. Follow the process to apply for the position
4. Daily, check Indeed for “step up” outside positions
5. If I find one, do the application within 6 hours
6. Talk to Jim about going for it, IF an offer is made

Process for desired Contribution/Giving Back result:
1. Look for child-related charities to support
2. Discuss possible charities with Annette
3. Find the required money in our monthly budget
4. Set up a monthly recurring donation

Side Hustle that Generates Revenue
Need to understand and determine a process and then lay out and execute the process

Step 5. Create a Foundational Schedule – I am starting with a VERY simple layout and will formalize this into my Google calendar or iCalendar before January 1.

Step 6. Initiate a Support System – My intent is to launch a private Facebook group for this effort. Until this, I will be using my site as a proxy accountability partner.

Step 7. Show Up Every Day in Peace and Love – I will remind myself every day that my intention for the day is to show up as the best version of myself, choose peace in all circumstances, and choose to love the people around me.
